Avalanche Incident Summary
The Avalanche Center has filed 68 incident reports with a total of 99 fatalities. Reports are from 14 countries and 10 US states.

/Oregon News Articles/ - February 4, 2005 - For the period of October 1, 2004 through January 31, 2005 the Avalanche Center has filed 68 incident reports from around the world. These resulted in a total of 99 fatalities. Reports are from 14 countries and 10 US states and include villages and highways as well as skiers, snowmobilers and other recreationalists. The CSAC database of reports since October 1, 2000 contains 643 reports resulting in 995 fatalities worldwide. The CSAC Incidents database can be used to further sort incidents by location, activity, date or number of fatalities. Official advisories are available for many incidents.

Of Special Note

The largest single incident was in Iran where a bus was hit by a large boulder as a result of an avalanche, killing 24 people. One incident in a village in Turkey killed 6 people in their homes while another in far eastern Russia buried 11 Reindeer herders in their camp, killing 9.
