Portland, Ore. Dragon Boat Paddlers to compete in US Nationals Qualifying Race
Wasabi Paddling Club sends teams to US Nationals qualifying races and Viewsonic Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival Races and July 25 - July 27.

/Oregon News Articles/ - PORTLAND, OR, July 23, 2008 -- Paddlers from Wasabi Paddling Club will be competing in the 5th US Dragon Boat Federation National Championships taking place in conjunction with the Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival races. Wasabi is fielding two teams - Wasabi Grand Masters and Wasabi Kraken Women (Juniors Women). In addition, many other paddlers will be competing on teams composed of Wasabi members and other paddling clubs from across the nation. At stake for these athletes is an opportunity to represent the United States at the International Dragon Boat Federation's (IDBF) World Championships in Prague, Czech Republic in 2009.

In addition to U.S National qualifying races, four Wasabi teams will compete in the festival races held at Marine Stadium - Wasabi Burn (Premier Mixed), Wasabi Power Surge (Masters Women) Wasabi Grand Masters (Masters Mixed) and Wasabi Kraken (Juniors).

For many Wasabi members, this race weekend is the beginning of a trip that will take them from Portland to Long Beach then ultimately to Penang, Malaysia to compete in the IDBF Club Crew World Championships.
