World Free Throw Records Set At NBSA Event
The State Games of Oregon, held in Beaverton, OR, got a boost last Saturday when a group of NBSA free throw masters set five new world records.

CLATSKANIE, OR, July 16, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The number of Guinness Book of World Records broken in one day probably itself just got broken on Saturday, July 10, 2010, in Beaverton, OR. Most assuredly, there have never been this many free throw records challenged and broken in the same day.

Current and former Guinness record holders from several locations in the U.S. came together at the State Games of Oregon to make an onslaught of the Guinness Book free throw records. First, they gave free throw clinics for all the competitors entered in the Oregon Free Throw Championships, enabling every shooter to improve his/her shot before they began age group competition. Later, they showed they knew what they were about, as they began to knock off one world record after another.

At mid-day, in front of TV news and private video cameras, four established records began to topple and one new one was set. In fact, one record was broken twice by two sets of shooters.

Ashley Graham, of Seattle, WA, started the record fest by making 39 free throws in one minute, to break the old mark of 38 for most free throws made in one minute by a woman.

Jeff Harris, also of Seattle, teamed with Ed Palubinskas, from Baton Rouge, LA, making 56 shots, to absolutely smash the current record of 26 free throws made in one minute by a pair, set earlier this year by two Los Angeles Lakers players. A few minutes later, Palubinskas teamed with Bob Fisher, of Centralia, KS, to again make 56 shots. Both marks will be submitted as records and Guinness can decide how to handle the two claims.

Palubinskas again stepped up to the line - this time with a blind fold on - to break the old established mark of 5 for most free throws made in one minute blindfolded. There is a pending mark of 16 awaiting adjudication by Guinness, however Palubinskas qualified himself as the best in the world, making an amazing 17 shots.

Fisher wound up the re-writing of free throw records, with two more world bests in the same event. In his first attempt to break the existing record of 44 makes in two minutes while alternating hands (set earlier this year by Jeff Harris during the NBA All-Star Break activities held in Dallas, TX), a mistake was made with setting the clock and it ran for only one minute. There is no one-minute mark currently, however this will be applied for now, as Fisher made a mind-boggling 41 shots in one minute. After resetting the clock correctly for the two minute attempt, Fisher pulled off the day's biggest coup by making 68 shots.

While all the documents and film need to be viewed and accepted by Guinness, before these marks go into their record book, however you count it, 5 or six new world bests were recorded. Indeed, this was a truly remarkable day of free throw shooting.
